It’s very difficult for me to choose only 10 albums to represent my favourite music as I have extremely eclectic taste and my tastes are forever changing, BUT I think the following albums will maintain a lasting position in my rotation for the following reasons…
Deftones – WHITE PONY
One of my favourite albums by one of my favourite bands… possibly my favourite band, in any case, a classic album, and one that always stands the rest of time and would still make waves if it dropped tomorrow. I love all Deftones’ albums, but this album holds a special place in my heart. adrenaline ignited the spark, but white pony truly lit the flame for forged my love for Deftones.
Poison The Well – OPPOSITE OF DECEMBER
One of the early albums that shaped the musical taste i would carry for a long time and also allowed me to experiment with juxtaposed sounds as a musician and writer. they blend heavy and beautiful in a seamless manner on this album. the style and fills on this album also inspired a lot of what i did in my early years as a drummer.
Notorious BIG – READY TO DIE
This album grabbed my attention at a very young age and still blows my mind to this day. Biggie is a huge inspiration to me as a lyricist, and its no secret I’ve borrowed a few lines from him over the years, but only to pay homage.
Tour dates for the Never Say Die! Tour are:
05 – LONDON Electric Ballroom
06 – MANCHESTER Academy
07 – GLASGOW Garage|
08 – CARDIFF Tramshed
No Warning – SUFFER, SURVIVE
Amazing songwriting, amazing performance, amazing sound. This album is an album I wish I wrote and in my opinion it gets nowhere near the credit it deserves. I don’t think there’s been a tour or road trip I’ve been on since it dropped that it hasn’t gotten multiple spins.
Giving up the Ghost – DOWN TILL WE’RE UNDERGROUND
It may be hard for some to hear, but DN takes a lot of influence from this album in the way we write songs. this album dances around the line between hardcore/punk/rock n roll in the best way imaginable. its relenting from start to finish and still hasn’t been topped in or even met by anyone else attempting a remotely similar sound since it dropped.
Ryan Adams – EASY TIGER
While Ryan Adams is an artist who’s extensive discography makes up a great deal of my collection, easy tiger stands out to me because it has a nice mix of his folkier sounds and his more straight forward rock songs. this album has gotten me through some very good and very bad times, but still manages to suit current mood, no matter what that may be.
Al Green – THE BEST OF
The reverend al green. lets stay together. enough said.
Schoolboy Q – OXYMORON
As someone who is constantly listening to new rap/hip hop, more often then not my current playlist is usually made up 80% of new music of this genre. But if i was to some the last few years up by picking the album that’s the most consistent start to finish, has the most hits and has had the most plays on my iTunes and in the tour van… this is it.
Hatebreed- SATISFACTION IS THE DEATH OF DESIRE
Musically spot on, lyrically spot on. The recording and song-writing not only stand the test of time, but superseded most music of this genre to come out. It’s a hard hitting no nonsense album that set the bench mark for hardcore and heavy music and still does.
Brand New – THE DEVIL AND GOD ARE RAGING INSIDE ME
A beautifully dark album. Powerfully poetic lyrics. An album that always manages to resonate with me on an emotional level no matter what is happening in my life at that point in time and I think that is what makes it timeless to me.
